Joomla has announced the immediate availability of Joomla 2.5. This new major version comes with a host of new features including new search functionality, multi-database support, and update notifications.
We are pleased to announce that DOCman 1.6.x and our upcoming FILEman 1.0 and LOGman 1.0 extensions are Joomla 2.5 ready!
Our team has been extensively testing the latest version of DOCman 1.6 since the early beta releases of Joomla 2.5. Results of the tests showed that DOCman is fully functional and compatible. Minor issues found have been reported to the Joomla development teams and fixed during the beta process.
Joomla 2.5 is a long term stability release (LTS) and will be supported until December 2013 by the Joomla project. Joomla 1.6 and 1.7 are short term releases (STR) and their support ends immediately after the release of a new version. (release cycle infographic)
At Joomlatools, we will support both long and short term releases for 3 more months after their end of life. This means that we will offer support for Joomla 1.7 until the 30th of April 2012.
This gives you the needed time to upgrade your sites to the latest version. If you are running a Joomla site on 1.6 or 1.7, we advice you to upgrade to Joomla 2.5 in the coming weeks. Moving from 1.7 to 2.5 can be done with the one-click upgrade within Joomla.
The team has been working hard on DOCman 2.0 over the past months. We realized that DOCman is basically made up of 3 key features: files, documents and logs.
Together, these three make up the core functionality. Instead of holding of until all three features are ready, we have decided to release them as separate extensions. We are very happy to announce today two new extensions to the Joomlatools family: FILEman and LOGman.
FILEman is our lightweight, simple, speedy and vamped up version of the Joomla media manager that features multiple file uploading and automatic thumbnail generation. All powered by AJAX, CSS3 and HTML5 making for a much more responsive user experience.
We listened to your feedback and released DOCman 1.6 for Joomla 1.7 at the beginning of the summer. DOCman 1.6 brings the same stability, performance and security you know from DOCman 1.5 to Joomla 1.7.
This release was followed by maintenance releases for DOCman 1.6.1 and 1.5.11 a few weeks ago. For more info about the exact changes, also see our changelogs.
Today we are announcing the end of support for DOCman 1.4. Released in February 2009 and downloaded more then 1 million times it has served us well for the past 2.5 years. With the end-of-life of DOCman 1.4 we are also officially saying goodbye to Joomla 1.0 which already reached its end of life on July 22, 2009.
We encourage everyone who is using DOCman 1.4 to upgrade to either DOCman 1.5 for Joomla 1.5 LTS (long term support) or DOCman 1.6 for Joomla 1.6/1.7 releases. Instructions on how to upgrade can be found on our support site.
We will continue to offer support for DOCman 1.4 on our forums until the 1st of September 2011 to help users migrate to DOCman 1.5/1.6.
With DOCman 1.6 released and the end-of-life of DOCman 1.4, we are now putting all our focus on DOCman 2.0. Keep a close eye on our blog, subscribe to our newsletter or follow us on twitter (@joomlatools) to receive more information.
To some it may seem like the DOCman team had gone a little quiet of late but to those who know us it was a sure sign that something big was happening behind the scenes.
We are happy to announce the release of DOCman 1.6 for Joomla 1.6 and 1.7! Join our new Joomlatools club and download the latest update to the DOCman software in our Member Center.

Conceived in 2003, DOCman has continued to be the premiere document management tool for Joomla for over 8 years. As many would already know we have been working on DOCman 2.0 which is itself a revolutionary rebuild of DOCman using Nooku Framework.
DOCman 1.6 does not include new features, instead we bring you the same stability, performance and security as DOCman 1.5 out of the box. It is intended that the DOCman 1.6 release will provide be a bridging solution for those already running with Joomla 1.6 or 1.7 and awaiting the release of DOCman 2.0.
The beginning of 2011 introduced three new faces in the Joomlatools scene – Israel Canasa, Ercan Ozkaya and Myra Jill Siason. Three vibrant, young, passionate experts in their own fields who have joined our team since February to bring you the next big thing: DOCman 2.0!
Israel and Ercan are taking charge of the DOCman 2.0 development while Myra is making sure sure that the team is running smoothly. Together with our Joomlatools regulars, we tripled our team size to bring you the best document manager for Joomla ever!
DOCman 2.0 is completely being re-written from scratch and built on-top of the Nooku Framework. It will work on both Joomla 1.5 & Joomla 1.6.
One unique feature of the team is the distributed nature of its members. The whole team is spread out across three continents – Europe, Asia & Australia. This has not become a hindrance but rather an asset, talent knows no boundaries.
Managing a distributed team is not easy, but all together we make it work. Essential to the process is proper and efficient use of online collaboration tools. For the project workspace, we use Assembla. Over the past 2 months we have been working on DOCman 2.0 in iterations of two weeks. We have taken Agile development strategies, tailor fitted them to the Joomlatools philosophy and have made them our own.
Joomlatools is pleased to announce the immediate release of DOCman’s Productivity Pack 1.5.2. This is a maintenance release which looks to fix-up some small issues found within previous releases. The Productivity pack consists of popular Notify, Populate and Thumbs addons for DOCman 1.5.x. All of which aim to make life with DOCman that little bit easier.
Following issues where fixed in this release :
As always those whom purchased the Productivity pack already will receive free updates and those whom have not purchased it yet can head over to the Joomlatools store and do so right now! We appreciate our users feedback as we strive forward to deliver “Joomla! extensions that just work”
Joomlatools would like to announce the immediate availability of DOCman 1.5.8 and DOCman 1.4.1.
Recently a medium level vulnerability was discovered in DOCman. A user with editing permissions can potentially access confidential data. The following versions of DOCman are affected: 1.3.x, 1.4.x up to 1.4.0.stable, 1.5.x up to 1.5.7. Upgrading to either 1.4.1 or 1.5.8 resolves the issue.
Even though this is only a medium level vulnerability that will only affect a small percentage of sites, we recommend everybody to upgrade as soon as possible.
Along with our revamped Nooku.org site, we also opened the new Nooku Blog. This way we can keep things nicely separated. So if you want to stay up to date with both DOCman and Nooku, subscribe to both http://feeds.nooku.org/blog and http://feeds.joomlatools.eu/site/blog.
You’ll amaze your friends and enemies with your knowledge of Joomla, and you’ll read about our ideas and thoughts for the Joomlasphere. And if you think we’re wrong, feel free to tell us so in the comments!
We are officially advising all our users and customers to NOT upgrade to Joomla 1.5.16/1.5.17. The new Joomla release includes a auto-plugin disable feature which can lead to a site experiencing unexpected behavior or worst case the site could go down.
The auto-plugin disable feature was introduced to quote :
I’d like to try to write a patch to Joomla core so it doesn’t die with fatal error when it can’t include a plugin file (in other words: plugin exists in DB but filesystem entry is deleted).
Source : Graceful handling of missing plugins
The introduced solution for this problem is that Joomla 1.5.16 and 1.5.17 now disables any plugin that triggers an error during initialisation.
The behavior assumes that a plugin would always throw an error, being a missing file, however the error could be conditional and only thrown under certain circumstances. Depending on how the plugin works the conditions could be rare. Instead of throwing an error the plugin is disabled and prevented from executing under normal conditions. This can lead to a site visitor experiencing unexpected behavior or worse the site could go down.
We have requested the change in 1.5.17 to be rolled-back.(See Tracker #19859).
In the mean time we strongly advise you to not upgrade to Joomla 1.5.16/1.5.17.
If you are using 1.5.16/1.5.17 and you are experiencing problem with plugins magically disabling themselves please let us know.
