Meet FILEman and LOGman

The team has been working hard on DOCman 2.0 over the past months. We realized that DOCman is basically made up of 3 key features: files, documents and logs.

Together, these three make up the core functionality. Instead of holding of until all three features are ready, we have decided to release them as separate extensions. We are very happy to announce today two new extensions to the Joomlatools family: FILEman and LOGman.

FILEman

FILEman is our lightweight, simple, speedy and vamped up version of the Joomla media manager that features multiple file uploading and automatic thumbnail generation. All powered by AJAX, CSS3 and HTML5 making for a much more responsive user experience.

LOGman

LOGman is a component that brings a Facebook style Activity Feed that tracks user activity within Joomla. The first version will allow you to keep track of the activity of the Content and Users component and all our Joomlatools extensions, including FILEman and DOCman.

What’s next?

We are getting ready to release FILEman and LOGman on our demo sites by mid November to gather initial feedback. After that, beta versions of both components will be made available to customers through our Member Center. We are aiming to have the betas ready before the end of the year.

In a next post we will take a look under the hood of FILEman and LOGman.

Instead of waiting until DOCman 2.0 is ready we have moved the logging and file management features into separate components.

FILEman itself will also offer basic download management features which is what most people use DOCman. DOCman will add more advanced document management.

Will Fileman also support frontend uploads ? Also, what about resume support etc ? Is that possible ?

  • http://johan.janssens.me Johan Janssens

Frontend uploads are available through FILElink. FILElink allows you to insert links to files into articles through the editor, it also allows you to uploads files on the fly.
